Kris Jones fundraising for Ysgol Cedewain
Kris Jones is going to be climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, and Snowdon in North Wales, and was hoping to raise funds for Ysgol Cedewain in the process. Kris said he would like to raise money for our school because special education needs is a large part in his life, as his brother has autism.
He hopes to earn money for classroom supplies. Every little helps.

Ysgol Cedewain Prom 2018
This year the school prom was held in the Sixth Form garden, making the most of the great weather. A hog roast was had for dinner and dancing to the music has continued throughout the day. This year’s Prom King and Prom Queen are Jordan Yapp and Victoria Hester, seen in the picture above accompanied by our Headteacher, Russell Cadwallader.

Family Liaison Officer
A member of staff has been assigned to this role for 3 days week. They are working with parents / carers and outside agencies to co co-ordinate annual education reviews and care and support meetings.

Pupil Intervention Co-ordinators
Two members of staff have been assigned to this role, each for 1 day per week, to work with small groups or individual pupils who have been identified as requiring additional support for both literacy and numeracy. Both staff will spend time visiting other schools, both mainstream and SEN provisions in order to gain an insight from others who run similar programmes of support.

ELSA Practitioners
Three members of staff have been assigned to this role, each for 1 day per week, to work with small groups or individual pupils who have been identified as requiring additional emotional support through emotional literacy. One member of staff completed the ELSA training course with Alun Flynn’s team in the autumn term, and has set up the programme here in School. Two additional staff members will complete the ELSA training programme during the summer term 2018.

New Build for Ysgol Cedewain
A priority for Powys County Council’s new 21st century school building scheme is an innovative and state-of-the-art build to replace the outdated school in Plantation Lane, Newtown.
Approximately £40million has been included in the project for Ysgol Cedewain, ensuring that the most vulnerable pupils in Powys get the high level of care and facilities required.
Mr Graham Owen, Chair of Governors at Ysgol Cedewain added: “The Governing Body is very pleased that, after many years of campaigning for a new school in view of the dilapidated condition of the current buildings, Powys County Council is intending to provide a new school and much improved facilities for some of the most vulnerable pupils in Powys. The Governing Body hopes that building of the new school will commence at the earliest possible opportunity to alleviate the very difficult situation with the current school’s infrastructure. The Governing Body would also like to pay tribute to the high standard of care and education provided by the staff at Ysgol Cedewain in very difficult circumstances.”
The site of the new build has not yet been decided but more updates will be on the way.
Coffee Morning for Macmillan’s Cancer Support
On Friday the 29th of September, we here at Cedewain showed our support for the Macmillan charity once again by participating in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. We had a brilliant turn out and an ever better variety of cakes. The senior pupils did a great job with the help of staff at setting everything up in the top school.
We here at Ysgol Cedewain raised in the region of £200.
The Cedewain Times : Edition One
The team behind the Cedewain Times, has had a busy couple of weeks and has published their first edition of the school’s newspaper. The newspaper is filled with information of what has been happening in the school in the previous half term. They look forward to your continued support.

Dyfi 2 visit to Grandma’s Garden
Dyfi 2 enjoyed a visit to Grandma’s garden at Plas Dolguog Hotel, Machynlleth. Grandma’s garden is a sensory garden with wheelchair access and suitable for all. The staff were very welcoming and provided a relaxed atmosphere. Well worth a visit.
