The Duke of Edinburgh Award 2019 – 2020

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is open to anyone aged 14 to 24 (not just fans of the great outdoors), and encourages teamwork and social interaction.

At Ysgol Cedewain we are a Licenced Centre and we offer the Duke of Edinburgh award for all our pupils aged 14 and above.  Last year we had 10 students that completed their Bronze Award and the previous year 9 completed their Silver.  This year as well as running a Bronze and Silver group, we are delighted to be offering Gold for the first time.

There are four sections of the award.  Volunteering, Skills and Physical, and an Expedition.  At the Gold level there is an additional requirement to complete a five-day residential challenge, either working for the community or learning a new skill.

The expedition section involved one expedition for Bronze and a practice and a final assessed expedition for Bronze and Gold.  The time-span of the expedition depends on the level of the award they are following. The students are supervised on the expeditions by suitably qualified staff.

The award is a great opportunity to reward pupils for activities they are already undertaking. It also encourages pupils to consider their community, increase their health and fitness levels, learn new skills and develop their independence.
