Hello, everyone, my name is Kate Beckett, my son Jayden attends Ysgol Cedewain.

I am arranging a Virtual book fair with the help from Jayne. I am a team leader for Usborne books at home, they are one of the leading independent children’s book publishers helping to create books for all ages.

Press release Dear Parents, Please see below a press release from Powys County Council:- Schools Update – Friday 8 January Schools across the county are likely to continue with online learning until at least February half term unless there is a significant reduction in coronavirus cases, Powys County Council has said. This morning (Friday, January 8), the Welsh Government announced that alert level four restrictions will continue and unless there is a significant reduction in cases before 29 January – the date of the next review – schools will continue to provide online learning until February half term. Schools will remain open but only for children of critical workers and vulnerable learners. Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “I welcome the Welsh Government’s announcement, which provides greater clarity for our learners, their families and for our school staff. We will work with our school leaders to ensure that appropriate measures are in place to support all our learners over the coming weeks. “We are committed to returning to face-to-face teaching and learning as soon as possible but only when it is safe to do so. “The Welsh Government has made it clear that unless there is a significant reduction in coronavirus cases before January 29, online learning will continue until February half term. “The situation remains very serious and it is important that we all follow the advice to stay at home and protect our health service. “Schools will remain open but only for children of critical workers as well as vulnerable learners where absolutely necessary. However, it is important that children remain at home wherever possible, as this is the safest place for everyone. “Our priority is the safety and wellbeing or our learners and school staff.  Until there is a significant reduction in coronavirus cases and medical and scientific advice allows learners to return to school, online learning will continue in Powys until further notice. “I would like to thank schools for their ongoing efforts to support pupils during this difficult time and I would also like to thank parents for their patience and co-operation during this unprecedented period of disruption to our schools.” ENDS

❄It may not be snowing outside yet but it certainly was in Ysgol Cedewain. Me and some of my friends may be in a little bit of trouble with Caron this morning, we had a snowball fight and it got a bit out of hand…

Dear Parents/Carers, we are arranging the AGM for the Friends of Cedewain, this is normally open to all who want to attend but due to current circumstances, we are going to try and organise this virtually on Microsoft teams. If you would please highlight your interest with your email addresss so you can be included, please email office@cedewain.powys.sch.uk. The meeting will be tomorrow 2/12/2020 at around 6.30 pm.

Community Governor Advert

We are currently looking for new community governors to join our friendly governing body. Our governors come from a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience but all share a common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our school.

We would be delighted to hear from anyone who:-

• Is interested in children’s education and the performance of the school
• Is community spirited and would like to represent the community
• Has spare time and the energy for the role
• Is able to work well as part of a team
• Can consider matters objectively and make informed judgements

There are approximately 22,200 school governors in Wales. They give their time, skills and expertise in a voluntary capacity, to help their schools provide children with the best possible education. Governing bodies are accountable for the strategic direction of their school and for the quality of education provided.

A Community Governor would bring their own experience and skills to the governing body and can act as a link with the community. They are appointed to represent community interests to enable the governing body to add specific areas of expertise to the governing body, reflecting a balance of interests amongst the stakeholder group.

Although Ysgol Cedewain is in Newtown we have a large catchment area for the whole of North Powys, so therefore to be a Community Governor for our school they would not necessarily have to live in Newtown.

We don’t expect you to be an expert in education and welcome governors from all walks of life to bring different perspectives and views. You just need to be committed to supporting our school community and the educational outcomes of our students

Community governors are appointed by the governing body. If a person is eligible to be a teacher or staff governor at the school, is a registered pupil at the school, or is an elected member of the LA, they cannot be appointed as a community governor.
